Accessibility Statement
Chalk is the companion web app for Tactera. Most of our users are blind or have low vision — accessibility is the product, not an add-on.
1. Our commitments
- We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, Level AA.
- Chalk is designed to be fully usable with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack, Windows Narrator) and with refreshable braille displays.
- Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard, has a visible focus state, and an accessible name.
- Colour is not the only way information is conveyed. The interface meets the minimum AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for text, 3:1 for large text and UI components).
2. Standards we follow or are working toward
- WCAG 2.2 Level AA (W3C)
- EN 301 549 (EU Accessibility Act, applicable from 28 June 2025)
- Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act
- Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 (India) and the accessibility standards notified under it.
3. Conformance status
Chalk has not yet been audited by an independent third party. We perform internal accessibility reviews and welcome feedback from the community. A formal Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT 2.5) will be published once the audit is complete.
4. Known gaps
We are tracking the following known issues and aim to resolve them in upcoming releases:
- Some decorative SVG icons in the dashboard and settings views are not yet marked with
aria-hidden; screen readers may announce them unnecessarily. - The note editor focus order is being improved when switching tabs.
5. How to give feedback
If you encounter any barrier or have a suggestion, please contact us at contactus@thinkerbelllabs.com. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 2 business days and resolve critical issues within 30 days.
6. Compatible technology
- Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop.
- iOS Safari with VoiceOver (iOS 16+).
- Android Chrome with TalkBack (Android 12+).
- Refreshable braille displays connecting via Braille HID.
7. Third-party accessibility tools
When enabled for your deployment, Chalk may load the UserWay accessibility widget from cdn.userway.org. The widget is optional and controlled by your operator's configuration. If present, it provides additional contrast, font, and navigation aids. UserWay's own privacy policy applies to data processed by that widget. You can reset UserWay settings with Ctrl+Alt+0 (or ⌘+Alt+0 on macOS).
